Welcome to Volume 14 of The Community Edition! We are happy you are here. In Mesopotamia and ancient Syria, the god Šumugan was associated with the number 14. Šumugan was referred to as the “shepherd of everything”, well regarded as the one responsible for prosperity and agricultural fertility. Source: Wikipedia.
As we approach yet another turbulent year, it is our duty to reflect on our actions and community impact. To apply feedback and criticism and deliver a slightly improved final product to you each month.
Being the “shepherd of everything” is an impossible pursuit without a doubt, but being a shepherd in your community is not.
In imparting this wisdom, we would like to challenge you, our readers, to be shepherds of good virtue and good values in your communities and your every day lives.
Whether you are a shepherd of joy or the bearer of bad news, we encourage you to approach your peers with compassion and understanding. Be present and uplift.
While we plug away and iterate and reiterate, it is not lost on us how important a task it is to deliver the news to our community. Our role here is especially crucial considering the barren media landscape we exist in.
With that in mind, we invite challenge and we invite change. This is our year and this is your year. Let’s make the most of it.
