Important Hair—The Barber of Seville (LP)
Release Date: Jan. 5, 2025
City: Waterloo
Genre: Experimental, Harsh Noise
Self-described as “noncommercial noise music,” Connor Kurtz’s solo project continues to push the boundaries of contemporary definitions of music. Maiden Lane—Tunnel (Dig Until I Die) (Single)
Release Date: Jan. 6, 2025
City: Kitchener
Genre: Hard Rock, Punk

Some of the best protest songs in history have come from the punk scene, and this emotionally and politically charged single from Maiden Lane fits right in. Recorded in the summer of 2024 amidst the ongoing conflict in Palestine, the song and its message are important to the band as the family of lead vocalist, Yousif Abusitta, are from Gaza. The cover art is by Ibrahim Abusitta and was taken from a recent screen print fundraiser for Palestine.

rhx34—u (Single)
Release Date: Jan. 12, 2025
City: Kitchener
Genre: Hyperpop
Supposedly recorded in a bedroom, this hyperpop project is an electronic sensory rollercoaster featuring chopped and autotuned vocals, dizzying tempos and distorted synths. The lyrics, which address feelings of loneliness and isolation, are juxtaposed by upbeat melodies culminating in a unique sound that can be jarring but undeniably catchy.
AntiSocial Surf Club—No Consequences (Single)
Release Date: Jan. 17, 2025
City: Kitchener
Genre: Indie Rock, Pop Punk

“No Consequences” is the latest single from AntiSocial Surf Club’s forthcoming album Soft Punk Indie Bullshit – set to release later this year – and continues to build upon the anticipation from their previous four singles released in 2024. With a high tempo, catchy guitar hooks and an anthemic chorus, the song is reminiscent of classic pop punk tracks, evoking a strong sense of early 2000s nostalgia.

SERMON—MOSQUITO (Single)
Release Date: Jan. 25, 2025
City: Kitchener
Genre: Post-Hardcore
If you have seen SERMON and their dual drummers play live recently, you will be well acquainted with these songs as they have been some of the most notable parts of their setlist as of late and these recorded versions are equally as impressive. The pummeling rhythm section and fuzz-laden guitars perfectly complement lead vocalist Jordan Forte’s shouty vocal performance and should be considered a must-listen for fans of hardcore.
